Ruta - a perennial herb, grayish-green shrub. Straight stem, branched. The flowers are yellow-green. Flowering in June-August. The plant is aromatic. Growing is not complicated. Seeds are sown in spring or in fall, at a depth of 1-2 cm with distance between plants 20 cm. Ruta responsive to fertilizers. Medicinal raw material is collected in the flowering period. The whole plant has a strong smell, wearing an unpleasant character, but when dried, turns into flavor of roses. The taste is sharp-bitter. Fresh plant contains from 0,1 to 0,15% of essential oils and special elements wich have the property to lower blood pressure and strengthen the fragile peripheral blood vessels (capillaries). External fresh juice of ruta is used for wounds and purulent conjunctivitis, as an antidote for snake bites. It is also used as a lotion to suppurating eyes. The same juice, decoction or powder mixed with honey is applied to wounds and bruises. Additionally, ruta is a good tool for refreshing the mouth (the plant is chewed). The most effective is the juice, so I recommend canning it for winter: mix 1 part juice (or leaf) with 6 parts of alcohol and keep for 10 days in a warm, dark place, filter (if the juice is made from the leaves). The dose is the same as when using a tincture. Use of ruta must be careful, without overdose. Leaves are also used to flavor drinks. Application. Decoction: 5 or 10 gr per 200 ml, 1 tbsp. 3 times a day. Tincture: 15% 10-15 drops 3 times a day for headaches, lack of appetite and other stomach diseases. Tea from the infusion of leaves of ruta with valerian root, taken in equal parts (1 / 4 cup of the mixture + boiling water). During the day the patient drinks 1 glass of this tea, in hysteria give to drink sips.
