How to grow lavender. Cultivation and care.

Growing lavender

Lavender is not really cold hardy. It is grown very rare in northern areas, where it should be protected over winter. It does not like wet and rich soils. Lavender prefers full sun, but can tolerate some shade. It can be grown indoors and outdoors in containers. Lavender grows to a height of 11 to 17 inches. Lavender can grow in a relatively wide pH range. It prefers light, well-drained, not rich soil.

Planting lavender

Sow seeds indoors six weeks before last frost. The seeds will germinate in 9 to 27 days. Propagation can also be done by cuttings of the chosen plants. Taken in spring, these cuttings are places in a shady place, 3 inches apart. Next year they are transplanted in dry and light soil with full sunlight. In such a location they will thrive and develop better. The plants should be spaced 17 to 23 inches apart.

Care for lavender
