Where, how and when to grow strawberries.

Big and juicy strawberries are easy to grow. They are the first berries to appear in spring. Strawberries also have lots of vitamins and minerals. In addition, they have many medicinal uses over the years. Cultivation of strawberries is not really complicated.
Strawberry varieties
There are three common strawberry varieties: "Ever-bearing" strawberries, which produce two crops during summer, one crop in June and another in July or August. "Day-neutral" strawberries produce berries whole summer. "Alpine" strawberries produce little berries all summer.
Growing strawberries in the garden
You can buy strawberry plants at your local nursery or order them from a garden catalog in early spring. For the cultivation of strawberries you can pick any soil in your yard. The best result are achieved in good soil. The acidity of the soil should be at 5.5 - 6.5. Each plant should have good, healthy roots.
Planting strawberry seedlings
Plant strawberries in a place that gets full sun, and warms up early in spring so the seedlings cannot be destroyed by frosts. South slope is best. Garden strawberry seedlings are planted in early spring or early fall. It is important not to be late with planting. If you miss the timing of spring planting, most plants will die. Fall planting is carried out in August and September. Before planting the seedlings are kept in a cool place for a few days. The best soil for planting must be moist but not wet. Add decomposed manure and humus in the soil. We do not recommend to use chemical fertilizers. Spread the roots with your hands when you place the plant in the hole. The root collar should be at ground level. Then you will need to water and mulch it.
Care after planting strawberries
Watering strawberries should be held regularly, with no long breaks. Lack of adequate moisture can reduce the yield. It is ideally to set a sprinkler or a drip irrigation system. Feed the plants with compost or other organic fertilizer every month. Do not forget to eliminate the weeds.

We wish you good luck in strawberry cultivation!
